Aviatrix wants to elevate the work of cloud networking heroes who labor to keep networks secure, effective, and performant. We’re proud to highlight people who have taught themselves the necessary skills, designed and managed successful networks, and have the expertise to share.
Our next hero spotlight is on Prasanta Kumar Panda, Senior Network Consultant. See our previous hero spotlights here.
Background: Leading Teams and Guiding Projects That Make a Real Impact
Prasanta started his journey in tech over 10 years ago, focusing on IT infrastructure and network engineering. He's worked in several major organizations, managing complicated network designs, migrations, and security implementations. His expertise includes Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, and cloud-networking technologies. “Throughout my career, I’ve always enjoyed solving problems and delivering secure, high-performance networks,” he said.
Prasanta’s favorite part of his role is seeing the benefits of his work. “I enjoy being able to design and implement complex networks that help organizations stay connected and secure,” he explained. “It’s rewarding to lead teams and guide projects that make a real impact, such as improving performance or making operations more resilient.”
Throughout his career, one of the most rewarding challenges he faced was leading the engineering efforts for Equinix’s internal data centers across the APAC and EMIA regions. “These projects weren’t just about implementing hardware and network protocols; they required a deep understanding of the unique business environments of different regions and constant coordination with diverse, cross-functional teams,” he said. “I vividly remember a network migration that was scheduled during a critical business quarter. By meticulously planning the migration cutover steps, involving multiple dry runs, and preparing thorough rollback plans, my team managed a seamless transition with zero downtime. That experience reinforced my belief that preparation and communication are as vital as technical skills in network engineering.”
The Evolution of Networking and the Next Ten Years
During Prasanta’s career, networking has transformed from mostly hardware-based to software-defined, automated, and managed through the cloud. “Security has become just as important as reliability,” he said.
Security conversations have changed with the move to the cloud. “Moving to the cloud has meant security discussions are now central to every project,” Prasanta said. “The cloud introduces new risks, so planning for compliance, data protection, and continuous monitoring has become a bigger focus.”
Cloud Network Security: Protecting Data and Resources
To Prasanta, cloud network security means protecting data and resources no matter where they are—on-premises or in the cloud.
“It’s about ensuring visibility, controlling access, and having policies that prevent breaches or data loss,” he said. “It is essential to always adapt as new technologies and threats emerge.”
Outside of Work
Outside of work, Prasanta enjoys cycling and reading about new technologies. He also likes exploring different cuisines and spending time with family and friends.
