Aviatrix wants to elevate the work of cloud networking heroes who labor to keep networks secure, effective, and performant. We’re proud to highlight people who have taught themselves the necessary skills, designed and managed successful networks, and have the expertise to share.
Our next hero spotlight is on Thomas Mouilleseaux, IT Global Manager. See our previous hero spotlights here.
Background: Driving Network Transformation
Thomas has been in the networking space for more than 20 years. He counts himself lucky to have started with a solid technical foundation managing network operations and engineering in Paris and New York for a major banking corporation. He later moved to a global management role at the company covering all business units, including retail banking, to drive and manage network transformation around architecture, security, and reliability & automation.
In his current role as Global Head of Network, Unified Communications and Market Data, he is still deeply involved in both on-premises and public cloud networking. The main challenge of this role is the lack of assessment of business needs and application requirements. “I have always preferred proactivity to reactivity, so I try to anticipate as much as possible while challenging uncertain initiatives,” he said.
His favorite part of his work is developing relationships with teammates while fixing issues or delivering projects. Some of his proudest accomplishments include:
Managing the end-to-end remediation and performance improvement of a US low-latency network, delivering strong value to the business
Large-scale automation of 10k devices & configurations providing Network as a Service delivery, improving network operations efficiency & hardening compliance
Delivery of ALTO SaaS hybrid cloud interconnection for clients in production, allowing onboarding as code for new clients in any region
The Evolution of Networking and the Next Ten Years
Throughout Thomas's career, he has seen minor and major evolutions in the industry: migrating WAN from Frame-Relay to Ethernet and developments around SDN, Automation & Cloud. He foresees network security and sovereign cloud growing in the next ten years, as well as a greater need for security planning due to the lack of enforcement of best practices.
Outside of Work
Outside of work, Thomas enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids as well as playing ice hockey with his team.
